Brave Train Staff Member Suffers Critical Injuries During Multiple Stabbing Attack on Express Service

A courageous train staff member who intervened to protect travelers during a multiple knife incident on a high-speed train has sustained life-threatening wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

Surveillance footage reportedly shows the staff member trying to stop the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders described a terrifying 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through carriages.

The suspect, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in detention for interrogation. Authorities announced a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Response and Consequences

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have now been released from medical care.

A witness recorded the suspect brandishing a big knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced police on the platform. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the courageous member of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a senior police official.

Union Response and Appeals for Measures

Train unions were swift to commend employees and call for more action. A labor leader stated he would be “seeking immediate discussions with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest possible assistance, resources and effective procedures in operation”.

A different association leader encouraged the rail company and government “to act quickly to examine security, to help the impacted employees, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Commended for Quick Action

The operator who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not halt the service in the center of two stops where it’s clearly difficult for the emergency services to access, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” explained a association official.

Additional Details

Police stated they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness described initially thinking if the event was a Halloween prank, but soon understood from people's faces that it was real.

Police have stated there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the community to come forward with any further details.

Train operations on the impacted line are anticipated to experience disruption until the following day, with travelers recommended to postpone their travel where feasible.

Individuals with information that could help the investigation are encouraged to reach authorities by sending a message a designated number with a reference code.
